I have lived in our wonderful village now for about 8 and change years. It wasn't long after we moved here that Bowden Stores opened up and the change to our village was amazing! We had a hub a meeting point, great food and coffee. It felt like a slice of London mixed with the rural life we love here in South Leicestershire.

I have taught the team at Bowden Stores twice over the last few years (a minor pandemic getting in the way of making it more regular!) and have had the pleasure of being hosted by Dominie Crips (the owner of Bowden Stores) to train and update her family and friends as well.

It gives me immense pleasure to shout about the fact that Resus Andy and Bowden Stores are teaming up to deliver workshops in their lovely venue on a monthly basis.

Sessions are aimed at parents and carers and anyone with an interest in learning an essential life skill.

What is taught? Well for your £22 you will receive the following tuition & practice: -
Adult & Child Basic Life Support Training
How to recognise and treat a choking episode
The recovery position
Familiarisation with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

AND we'll have a lot of laughs (normally at my expense!) along the way.

Session are two hours and start at 19:30.

If you would like to book onto one of these sessions - please use this 🔗 link or contact Bowden Stores directly 01858 440957
Hope to see you there!

It's been a while...

I have 100% neglected my website... for a good while. Why? Have I retired and now I am back? No, far from it. Resus Andy has still been teaching and working hard as always with more of a focus in the realms of GP practice Resus updates.

BUT SO much has changed in the last update... of dear... 8 years ago 😟

So, what's happened? Speed Round!
2018 - I left the NHS to start a journey into the lofty halls of Academia... teaching undergraduate Children's & Young People at Northampton University
2019 - Aimee (my wife pictured above) and I became parents to an amazing (now) young girl called Annabelle. Can't lie, best thing that has ever happened to me and my god, its a bloody hard job, but SO rewarding. Sorry probably should of prefaced that with a CLICHE ALERT!
2021 - moved from Northampton University to Coventry University to follow my passion for teaching and education using Simulation and became part of the Health Simulation team working in the School of Health & Care. I am now the principle lecturer/subject lead & Course Director for the MSc in Health Simulation. The projects I am involved in now and the international reach and recognition is just mind blowing #HumbleBrag!
2024 - seriously questioning my life choices right at the top of the year as I have embarked on a PhD researching the (perceived) disconnect between the teaching and the (practical) delivery of Breaking Bad News in Healthcare. It's a massive passion/interest of mine from a personal and professional POV and I am hopeful that my research sheds new light and ways in which we can teach and better prepare Healthcare Professionals to be more mindful, confident and resilient in the delivery of bad news. Ultimately with the aim in improving the experience of those on the receiving end and themselves as well as the impacts are not just patient focused.

So much has happened that I do not need to share, but for anyone out there who is remotely interested... know that Resus Andy is doing great and 2024 could be the start of more family and parent training focused area. Going back to the original roots of why I wanted to start Resus Andy - Parent and family resus training.

And that is starting now... checkout the next post! I know, you wait 8 years for a post from Resus Andy and then two come at once!!

Well done for braving the rather chilly teaching conditions post run!
Also did I mention I got a PB today?

A sad day for the Resuscitation community, Henry Heimlich has passed away

US doctor Henry Heimlich, who invented the manoeuvre used to help victims of choking, has died aged 96.
A true Resuscitation legend, not only did he invent the abdominal thrust that will have saved so many lives, he also invented a chest drain device credited with saving the lives of many US soldiers in the Vietnam war.
More recently he used his name sakes manoeuvre to save a fellow nursing home residents life at the age of 96?! What an incredible individual.

If only more people were as switched on as this 12 year old boy - *SPOILER ALERT* – you should probably watch the whole video before making a judgement.
